Practice Areas

I believe that at the heart of every successful clinical relationship is a strong therapeutic connection between the therapist and the client(s). I consider it my responsibility to create a safe and nonjudgmental space that allows you to openly explore your thoughts and feelings. My role as counselor begins with listening (to both what is said and not said), providing respect, empathy and validation.

As a therapist, I approach each clinical relationship with the following assumptions:

1. People do the best they can with whatever resources they have available to them.

2. People want to improve, to be happy, and to have satisfying relationships.

3. There are times when people don’t have the resources or skills to manage their lives more effectively. In these cases, therapy can provide an opportunity to learn new ways of thinking or behaving that may be generalized to day-to-day life.

4. People may not have caused all of their problems, but have the opportunity to solve them and create their own happiness.

5. Every person is worthy of love and fulfillment.

My approach is collaborative and present-focused. I tend to explore the past only as it relates to present areas of difficulty. With intensive training and extensive experience in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), in my work, I borrow heavily from Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, and insight-oriented strategies. I also believe strongly in the connection between mind and body and support a holistic approach to emotional health and wellness.
