My Philosophy

gretchenestesHi, my name is Gretchen Estes, and having lived in Vermont and the Seacoast of NH most of my life I consider myself a true New Englander. I am drawn to the mountains and the ocean and I embrace our four seasons.

With a major in Psychology, I earned my Bachelors Degree from Colby College in Waterville, ME. I attended graduate school at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. My Master’s of Education degree is in mental health counseling. I have been a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in the State of New Hampshire since March of 2001 (license # 392). I have been working in the mental health field as a psychotherapist for over 17 years and have extensive experience and training in a variety of treatment modalities and settings including community mental health, outpatient clinic and home-based therapy.

You can expect that I will listen to you, take your concerns seriously and will help you find ways to manage life stressors more effectively. Your thoughts and feelings are important to me. I welcome questions and feedback at any time.

Therapy can have both benefits and risks. Because therapy often involves discussing unpleasant aspects of your life and/or relationships, you may experience uncomfortable feelings such as sadness, guilt, anger, and resentment. Thoughts and feelings you have tried not to think about may be painful. There are also great benefits. Therapy can lead to better relationships, solutions to life problems, and a significant decrease in distress. Therapy can allow you to feel more at peace and to consider possibilities you may never have imagined!

If you would like to schedule an appointment or if you have any questions about my training, experience, or how I practice, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you.
